Prof. Dr. Helge Oder is a trained goldsmith, studied product design at the HTW Dresden and received his Ph.D. in this field at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In addition, he is an examinated pedagogue (2. Staatsexamen) with teaching degree for secondary schools. As part of his design and scientific work, he researches the relevance and unique position of design in cooperative innovation and development processes. In cooperation with research institutes (e.g. Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft) and SMEs, he carries out experimental R&D projects. At the HGK Basel/Masterstudio Design, Helge Oder researched and taught integrative design processes, e.g. in the context of sustainable regional development through design. From 2014 to 2016 he worked as a deputy professor for cultural and civilization theory/history of design at the HTW Dresden. The findings on the importance of design as a cultural and innovation factor are the basis for practice-based theory and teaching. His designs have received several awards, including the Lucky Strike Design Award and the Saxon State Prize for Design. Since the winter semester 2022/23, he has been Professor of "Design – Product – Impact" in the Creative Engineering program at the Faculty of Design At Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.
