Dr. Helge Oder is a trained goldsmith and product designer (Dipl. Des.). In 2019 he defended his Ph.D.-thesis "Entwerferische Dinge" with the grade "magna cum laude" (1.0) at Bauhaus University Weimar. His thesis was published at Birkhäuser Verlag Basel/board of international research in design (BIRD). From 2014 to 2016 he worked as a interim professor for cultural / civilization theory and history of design at the HTW Dresden. One focus of his work there was the study of sustainable product cultures and the role of design and his artifacts as an actor in cultural change processes. The insights gained on the significance of design as a factor of culture and innovation is the basis of practice-based theorizing and teaching. In his doctoral project (Ph.D.) at the BUW, he investigates the autonomy of design in open development processes based by experimental design projects. Experimental and epistemological design characterize Helge Oder's research on design basics and cultural innovation. This practice of research through design evolves continuously and will be reflected in workshop formats and publications.
